ECO Index B - Caro-Kann and the Sicilian
ECO Index B Intro
Welcome to ECO Index B. This is a continuation from
ECO Index A. In Volume B we find a library of defenses for Black. B00-09 covers defenses such as the Scandinavian, Alekhine's, Robatsch and Pirc Defenses. But first all replies to 1.e4 except 1... e5, 1... d5, 1... Nf6, 1... g6, 1... d6, 1... c6, 1... c5. They're covered later.
B10-19 brings us to the well known Caro-Kann Defense. This is a solid if arguably passive defense for Black and a very important part of Black's defensive theory. Across the 10 entries devoted to it, the defense is introduced and developed giving you a basic insight into it's possibilities.
The final 80 openings in the section show you the opening stages of the mammoth Sicilian Defense. I wonder if there is anyone alive who has the whole deal on the Sicilian, it's so vast. It's also a very interesting opening as it's not water-tight but is razor sharp. Enjoy.

ECO Index C
I take it you're now a Sicilian expert with a good handle on the Caro-Kann. You don't need to learn it all the one day. If you need a break from the Dragon may I suggest you cast your eyes on
Volume C.
First you start out with the French Defense where Black defends the King's pawn from the center instead of the flank. Also contained are the Center Game, the Vienna Game, the King's Gambit.
You will also see the King's Knight Opening, Philidor's Defense, Petrov's Defense, the King's Pawn Game, the Scotch Game. You have Evan's Gambit, the Two Knight's Defense, Three Knight's Defense and Four Knight's Defense. You have the Giuoco Piano and finally you finish up with the last 40 openings dealing with the infamous Ruy Lopez.
